Point Lonsdale Tennis Club

Client: Borough of Queenscliffe
Timing: February 2020 – June 2020
Surface Type: Synthetic Turf

The Borough of Queenscliffe engaged iDwala as the principal contractor responsible for the upgrade of two hardcourts with synthetic grass at the Point Lonsdale Tennis Club in Queenscliffe. The contract included the provision of a compliant light design for the two tennis courts and installation of a new lighting system.

To enable Council to work within their budget, the new courts were installed over the top of the existing Plexipave courts after rigorous investigations were undertaken to ensure the stability of the pavement and completion of some minor maintenance works.

The new courts were surfaced with Australian-made SuperGrasse CourtTurf PE and complemented the facilities existing blue courts with green surrounds.

Due to the corrosive nature and close proximity of the Point Lonsdale tennis courts to the coastal environment, concrete light poles were installed in lieu of traditional galvanised light poles to prevent early onset corrosion and rust. As part of these works, a new lighting and electrical upgrade was also developed to help the courts become more energy efficient and to suit the unique requirements of the facility.

This innovative approach not only provided an excellent and more cost effective solution, it also ensured the integrity and longevity of the electrical facilities whilst simultaneously helping to reduce maintenance costs for both the facility and Council moving forward.

Following the completion of the court surface upgrades and electrical transformations, the facility has also been added to the Tennis Victoria Book a Court management system and it is now a highly used facility and valuable asset to the local community.
