HEPBURN RECREATION RESERVE NETBALL COURTS

Client: Hepburn Shire Council
Timing: Dec 2021 – Mar 2022
Surface Type: Acrylic

Hepburn Shire Council turned to iDwala, the Community Sports Facility Specialist for technical advice, construction and project management expertise to manage the reconstruction of the Hepburn Recreation Reserve community netball court.  Council took the initiative to replace the court which was experiencing considerable cracking and would have continued to deteriorate if intervention was delayed any longer.

After only five years of operation, the original asphalt court was exhibiting difficulty after what was suspected being installed too late in the season, followed by an early application of the acrylic surfacing system in less than suitable temperatures. This was identified as the root cause of the extensive ‘crocodile’ cracking leading to inhibited play and surface safety concerns for the sporting community.  iDwala therefore suggested the reconstruction of the asphalt base and a surface installation using Australian made acrylic Laykold Advantage, specifically formulated for netball court surfaces.

To make the court compliant with Netball Victoria specifications, additional works were also carried out to move the netball posts into the correct position, making the court suitable for both competition and team training requirements.

The Laykold court surfacing system featuring two toned Aussie Blue and Dark Blue colors was chosen for its durability, especially in the Australian sun, whilst also allowing athletes to perform to high standards during training and competition.  With expert application and correct project management of the reconstruction of the underlying crushed rock pavement, asphalt base and surfacing, Council can now expect to support their sporting community with a quality facility and surface that will last for many years
