iDwala was engaged by Baw Baw Shire Council as the principal contractor for the reconstruction of two existing tennis courts at Drouin Tennis Club in Balmoral Park, Victoria.

The tennis club featured six synthetic turf courts and two acrylic Plexipave hard courts. The acrylic courts were nearing the end of their useful lifespan and required redevelopment to maintain player safety, suitable playability and aesthetic appearance to support the club in their efforts of attracting new memberships.

The scope of works included the removal of the existing plexipave tennis courts, civil construction works to prepare a class 2 base layer, the pouring of two new concrete slabs, the installation of a new lighting design and quality fencing. The court surface installed was Australian-made Laykold Masters, known for its slip resistance and injury reduction, UV stability and durability.

Like many sporting projects, sometimes the unexpected can arise and this project was no exception. Unknown sewer and drainage systems were identified, requiring some relocation and realignment works. An under-court spring was exposed during the civil works resulting in a weaker than ideal subgrade as well. Due to these unexpected findings, iDwala provided a new engineering solution and redesigned the tennis court pavement to be a reinforced concrete pavement suitable for the conditions.

The issues identified were nothing that couldn’t be overcome with the experienced iDwala engineers and designers and excellent communication of the entire iDwala team. iDwala provided the best practical advice and cost effective solutions to the satisfaction of the Council.

Council and the Drouin Tennis Club were delighted with the end result and importantly found the whole experience to be very positive and frustration free.
