The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) in consultation with Mount Clear College engaged iDwala as the principal contractor for the construction of two outdoor multipurpose sports courts on what was deemed a very challenging site with a considerable slope.

Although the original facility design had been provided by another contractor, the school was facing unnecessary costs relating to extensive and high retaining walls. As a result, iDwala was asked to help redesign the courts and retaining walls to suit the site and clients specific requirements whilst reducing the heights of the retaining walls to be no more than 1-meter in any location. This process saved the school considerable funds, removed the need for any building permits and high construction costs, whilst most importantly met the schools requirements in terms of safety, budget and accessibility for all abilities.

The redesign also ensured that the project was completed in a short space of time to give the School
early access to the facility. iDwala was able to successfully navigate the site’s challenges and steep slopes to provide the most cost effective and practical solution for the site including the preservation of as much native plant life as possible, whilst simultaneously maximising the sports court footprint. The scope of works included considerate clearing of the area, extensive cut and fill works, formation of the subgrade pavement, retaining wall redesign and construction, and acrylic surface installation.

The two courts are both line marked to accommodate basketball and netball, and feature reversible goal towers for ease of changeover. Following on from the successful completion of these courts, student sand teachers are loving the new durable, colourful and high quality sports courts that enable Mount Clear College to further extend their sporting program and opportunities to students.
